Phlan Slums


Upon entering the Slums "You enter the monster infested slums of Phlan. Large insects and rats run beneath your feet. Off in the distance an alarm bell can be heard"

1 - An orc and three goblins are arguing over papers here. They immediately attack. There are two scrolls of cure wounds here on a table along with other random notes of no value.

2 - 5 goblins here were enjoying themselves drinking, sparring, etc. prior to the party arriving. Their "leader" has a suit of Leather Armor +1

3 - These were once stables. Searching the area reveals a leather bag with 2 gems, 100 gold, 20 arrows + 1, and a Short Bow + 1

4 - 1 winged kobold and 5 kobolds are here. The leader has magical Bracers of Defense.

5 -  Hidden in this secret room is a  6 gems, 50 platinum, 92 gold, 20 Arrows +1, and a Long Bow +1.

6 - A hobgoblin and 4 goblins are arguing over a pile of gold. Loot contains 50 platinum, 500 gold, and a Ring of Protection.

7 - A hobgoblin is here giving orders to 2 goblins and 2 kobolds. They are angered by the party's intrusion and attack. The loot includes 1 Broad Sword + 1, Chainmail +1, and a Flail +1

8 - A gypsy lives here. The party can either have her tell your fortune, or attack her, which automatically kills her and gets them 3 copper, and makes random combats in the Slums harder. The three fortunes you can receive depend on how far in the the campaign the party has gotten: 

* "Blood and violence are writ boldly in your future. Look for friends where you expect enemies and enemies where you expect allies."

* "A powerful one becomes aware of your deeds and seeks to destroy you. A weak one sees you as a path to power." 

* "The time is nigh when the paths you have trod will empty and you must seek new ways. The riddle's answer is great evil using great good for great evil."

9 -  If the block has not yet been cleared, the party can hear skulking monsters drop hints about other places in the slums here: 

* "... the gang is operating from the catacombs by the well ..." 
* "... the temple over the river is run by some hot-shot orc ..." 
* "... there is a secret treasure room in the NW corner ..."

10 - 1 goblin boss and 6 goblins guard this room. They immediately attack the party.

11 - Monster leaders are having a meeting here. They consist of 1 ogre, 1 gnoll, 1 goblin boss, and 1 hobgoblin.

12 - 1 goblin boss and 2 goblins guard this room.

13 - 500 platinum, a shield + 1, and a scroll of magic missile are hidding in this room.

14 - The 3rd level wizard Ohlo is here. Threatening him or attacking him will result in combat with 2 previously undetected Bugbears rushing to his aid. However if the party is willing to retrieve a package for him from 15 on the map, he will reward them with 150 platinum and a random magic item (or DM's choice).

15 - A merchant lives here that is rather unresponsive to requests from the party unless Ohlo's name is mentioned in which case he will provide the package Ohlo wants. If the party attacks the merchant however though or tries to pressure him for aid they will be ambushed by 4 hobgoblins.

16 - 2 ogres and a troll are playing with a sack of grain by tossing it. They decide to toss the party instead. Loot includes 50 platinum, 40 gold, and a magical item of the DM's choice.

Final Note: Random patrols of monsters can be dropped into the map at the DM's discretion.
